Leading Edge Word Processing is an "easy to use", yet full-featured, word processor bundled with Leading Edge computers. It has operational similarities similar to Wang word processing systems. Lotus 1-2-3 was an early spreadsheet application available for MS-DOS. It became extremely popular in the late 1980s, displacing the former leader VisiCalc. Later versions were included in Lotus SmartSuite.

Lotus Improv (1991) 1 Spreadsheet Other Windows

Improv is a spreadsheet program that attempted to re-imagine how one would create and interact with spreadsheets. It was first released in 1991 for NeXT computers, and for a time became one of the NeXT's "Killer Apps". In 1993 Lotus released Improv 2.0 for Microsoft Windows. It was not marketed as a direct replacement to Lotus 1-2-3, and 1-2-3 remained dominant until both were overtaken by Microsoft Excel.

Lotus Jazz was a heavily marketed all-in-one integrated office suite that included a word processor, spreadsheet, graphing, database, and communications program. First released in 1986, Lotus Manuscript is a sophisticated word processor geared toward scientific technical writing. It features easy table editing, the ability to easily edit and print mathematical equations, and can handle very complicated documents. It also includes footnoting, document tracking, import from 1-2-3, and mailmerge. Version 2 adds macro and downloadable font support.

The feature that sets it apart from others is that it is memory-resident, so you can bring it up on top of other DOS programs and exchange data with them. Unlike simple TSRs, however, Ludid 3D is a full featured spreadsheet. It features linking, macros, windowing, intelligent recalculation, background recalculation, and user-definable functions.

Multiplan (1983) 19 Spreadsheet DOS MacOS OS2

Microsoft Multiplan was an early 8-bit spreadsheet application for CP/M and MS-DOS with ports to numerous other platforms in the early 80s. Initially it competed against VisiCalc and later Lotus 1-2-3. A companion product, Microsoft Chart, provided graphing support. Multiplan was never ported to Windows, where it was replaced with Microsoft Excel. Excel also replaced Multiplan on the Macintosh platform.
